Recommendations please!!

I've no idea where to go my summer holiday this year. I tend to stick to Spain, so if anyone has been anywhere nice where my teenage son and I could go please let me know. We will probably be spending 2 weeks somewhere (July/August) with a nice beach and hopefully with something to entertain my 15 year old son. We've already done Salou and Benidorm. Please feel free to give me your ideas and recommendations etc.

Suggest a holiday including some activity element - have a look at Neilsons, loads of water sports, you can take part if you like, he will meet loads of other teens his age and you might get to have fun too! They have lots of places, including Greece, Turkey, etc - and do some deals if you register with their website and wait!

Good luck

I loved all the Canary islands and so did my kids. I guess it depends on how active you or your son want to be, or if he will be happy with the usual beach and water sports. There's lots of nice places to go for food and drinks, all very family friendly. I went to Turkey and hated it. Never again. The people there were very arrogant towards me and my family and I was groped the two times I ventured out to the shops on my own (in the afternoon fully clothed!)
Good luck with your search.

Wow!!! Thanks for the advice Carol. My sister's friend also had a bad experience in Turkey with the men. Very touchy/feely with her and her kids!! I may stay clear of there. My son has been to Tenerife and enjoyed it, although after being to Disney (with theme park) Benidorm (with theme park) and Salou (with theme park) - you see a pattern here? LOL, he said Tenerife was quite boring compared to these. Personally I prefer a beach, pool, nice restaurants and pubs etc, I couldn't care less about the theme parks. Maybe this year the holiday can be for me for a change :-)

Why not try Benalmadena? As well as plenty to keep you entertained in the evenings there are plenty of places your son will feel at home in as well. If your looking for a very nice hotel that is central to Benalmadena with bars, cafe's and restaurants right on your doorstep and bus stops one way into Torremolinos (10 mins) and Fuengirola (15mins) the other, try Hotel Las Arenas. The food is really good, very nice hotel the staff are really great and have some good entertainment on in the hotel itself and the Beach is right across the road about 30 seconds away! Been twice at Christmas time (last 2 years)

Or....Tenerife (Canary Islands)particularly Playa De Las Americas or Los Christianos. There is so much for you and your son to do, the weather is fantastic and the beaches brilliant. There are teeny bopper bars, karoke bars, tribute act bars, quiet bars, loads of restaurants, waterpark, shops..shops..shops...(much cheaper than mainland spain for your duty free's!) You can get a proper english breaksfast or a sunday roast with homemade yorkshires or try spanish, italian, indian, chinese, french food....there's something for every taste, and you will probably get hooked on the place! I went for 11 straight years in a row and ended up buying a bar there!

Excellent, thanks for that. I have been considering Tenerife for a wee while now. My son was there a few years ago with my sister, although I haven't been. My sister prefers the canaries to mainland Spain. So, you bought a bar there? Great stuff!!! What kind of bar and where exactly? If I go, I might pop in for a drink. lol

I loved Taba Heights in T'Egypt - you could do loads of activites: quad biking in the canyon, snorkelling, golf and golf lessons, trip to the dead sea, Petra in Jordan, etc.

A couple of hotels were All Inclusive (Sofitel & 3 Corners El-Wakala) - the rest were Half Board.

If you like it hot - this is the place for you - even Sharm would offer similar opportunities, I would think - although I have not visited there.

Tenerife is also a great destination - they have a fab new waterpark (www.siampark.net) opening up this summer with the best waterslides I have ever seem. You can also go on boat trips to see the whales and dolphins, they have carting, great nightlife for all, lots of watersports on the beaches: pedalos, banana boat ride, jet bikes, etc.

Good Luck!

Hi
I am looking for somewhere also for myself and a daughter 17yrs. We went to Portugal last year and there was plenty for her to do. Also Mojcar in Almeria is quite good for you and your son. Thinking about there myself. I went to Tenerife in 2006 and my daughter had a ball.....plenty of teenagers and lots to do, even for me..
